Dear Sir, Rumford was (is) 450 km away from Lake Placid. There was lack of snow at Lake Placid, therefore the organizing committee did search for another town which was able to carry out the ski-cross events. While the Officials and the athletes did move with cars, the medias had a big trouble. There was no connection from Lake Placid to Rumford (no train, no bus, no aeroplane). So they had to go back to NYC from where the could move to Rumford. Scheduled events were postponed and modified. The Nordic Combined was divided: Jumping on February 1st at LP, 18km ski-cross on February 3rd at Rumford (it was included in the "18km special ski-cross"). On Sunday, February 5th, there were held two events: 4x10km at Rumford, "special jumping" at LP (medias did prefer to see the jumping). On February 6th, there was the 50km carried out, and it was followed by the final ceremony at Rumford (opening ceremony was held at LP). I would like to suggest to read the German Wikipedia - there you can find further information (but it is written in German language). Nice regards - Cordiali saluti! --Skiscout (msg) 22:09, 8 nov 2017 (CET).[rispondi]
