About the true and untrue Northwest Passage (Intorno all'autentico Passaggio a Nord Ovest)[modifica wikitesto]

I want to write about the reasons why the passage from Europe to Asia through the north was called "the untrue Northwest Passage".

At the beginning the Northwest Passage was called the way to evitate the difficulties of Seas between Asia and Guinea. It was the way to run with the wind from North turning to the West from the South. This thought was before James Cook's sailings. For a period many intellectuals were sure that no fifth continent was. Wrong maps were done, calcules of moon attractions and sea forces by newtonian technics were done and believed science. Out of this human difficulty, the Northwest Passage was a way by many and many mysteries and impossible methods. Mariners were sometimes called crazy to find it. Times before italian traveller Marco Polo navigated through Pacific Ocean, long nearby the coasts of China. Before were Amalphitans to navigate through Indian Ocean, Arabs were with them. In China was known the great land of Australia, but occidentals ships were not able to find the space and the force to do the same. Was said of that great land in the south, was thought impossible and also absurde the passage easier. India was so far away from Europe travelling to the West, Americas was in the meddle, the so called Lands of Meddles by viking mariners, who got Canada coasts many centuries before. Spanish ambitions, increased by the genius of Colombo, died in the Americas, and another italian sailor, Amerigo Vespucci, managed to investigate the southerns waters, near the so called Fires' Land: the results were not good for atlantic european powers. No more hopes remained when was less private the diary of Pigafetta, who resisted in the journey to find the western way to Indias: through that parts no shorter times were. Vikings knew better than others the dangers to go around Canada to Siberia, but also europeans understood. Finished the ambition to establish contacts to Indias with no Africa rounding, remained the adventure for the fifth continent, which was called Australia before Cook's sailings in reguard of air movements, egual to Austria land winds. It was not called Northwest Passage the dangerous seas of Canada, cause nobody able in navigation thought it like an alternative. Remained the true Northwest passage, that was to be found by "Southern Seas". Legends were talked of these seas, in reason of the strangest questions given from the nature to sailors. Only fews wanted to continue and in scientific cultures remained the illusion that Australia was a dreamed land. Were called "the dream seas" southern waters, but also before had this expression for the far effects of their nature to mariners and who met them after. These, before James Cook sailings.

So were named "the true Northwest Passage" ocean regions, run by the strangest winds, to pass from the Pacific to the Indian. The winds were in some cases to the northwest when ships were to the southeast, and this was the first way of saying the "Northwest Passage", reguarding it to air movements. The origins of this expression were by Amalphitans, when the "eastern seas and oceans" were their "parts". When Pigafetta 'watched but not saw' Magellano died, it was after, happened this in an island in Pacific Ocean where Corano was the sacred book. The true Northwest Passage at that time was not forced by the sea, was told, but perhaps along "another land", thought then Australia.
