pale, and thevulvar orifice is narrowed. Kraurosis vulvae is a term applied to a specific form of atrophy ofthe vulva, the cause of which is unknown. The extent of theatrophy may be greater than the atrophy of old age. The labiamajora are flat and flaccid, while the mucosa may be so friable asto be injured by the examining finger. The labia minora andclitoris may wholly disappear. In addition to the dryness of thesurface there is extreme sensitiveness. Dyspareunia is a commoncomplaint, and when associated with itching and a sense of drynessin the vulva the possibility of kraurosis is to be borne in mind(Figs. 94 and 95). Kraurosis occurs chiefly in women of advanced age; in women whohave borne children and have become sterile; in the married, andin the widow. The lesion sometimes follows removal of the ovaries.
