Stamp of Monaco; 1948; commemorative stamp of the issue "180th anniversary of birth of François-Joseph Bosio" (1768-1845).; Meant is the Baron François-Joseph Bosio (1768-1845 (other source 1769-1845), born in Monaco, death in Paris); He was a French sculptor and drawer and depicted as stamp motive is his sculpture "La Nymphe Salmacis sortant du bain". This sculpture was created in 1824 (other source 1826) in the style of the French classicism and is contemporary located in the "Musée du Louvre" in Paris. (The Baron was an narrow comrade from Napoleon I.);

According to the Old-Greek Mythology was Salmacis the Goddess Wife of Hermaphroditos.; Her depiction is extraordinaire, because Salmacis was the single (contemporary known) Nymphe which is not classified to the "Neirades" of the Diana.; Her husband was "Hermaphroditos", a double-gendered beeing of the Old-Greek mythology.; Salmacis is also the name of the location near the source, in which the Nymph shall have been lived.; Salmacis and Hermaphroditos were often depicted in the world of arts, among others in an etching from 1581 by Virgil Solis (1514-1562) as then book-illustration.; mint stamp
