Text: A Desperate Fight Between Officers of the Law and Cow-Boys--The Killed and Wounded--Failure of Lord & Williams Tombstone, A.T., October 26th -- This morning, the City Marshall, V. W. Earp, arrested a cow-boy named Ike Clanton, for disorderly conduct, and he was fined twenty-five dollars and disarmed in the Justices' Court. Clanton left, swearing vengeance on the Sheriff and Marshall Earp and his brother Morgan who tried to induce Clanton to leave the town, but he refused to be pacified. About three o'clock P.M., the Earp brothers and J.H. Halliday met four cow-boys, namely the two Clanton brothers and the two McLowery brothers, when a lively fire commenced from the cow-boys against the three citizens. About thirty shots were fired rapidly. T., 26. Oktober - An diesem Morgen, verhaftete Marshall V. W. Earp einen Cowboy namens Ike Clanton für ungebührliches Verhalten, und er (Clanton) wurde zu einer Geldstrafe von 25$ verurteilt und vom Gericht des Magistrats entwaffnet. Beim Verlassen des Gerichts schwor Clanton Rache gegen den Sheriff, Marshall Earp und seinen Bruder Morgan, die versucht hatten Clanton aus der Stadt zu vertreiben. Clanton wollte sich nicht beruhigen. Um 15:00 Uhr, trafen die Brüder Earp und Doc Holliday auf vier Cowboys, die beiden Clanton Brüder und die beiden McLowery Brüder, daraufhin entbrannte eine lebhafte Schießerei zwischen den Cowboys und den drei Bürgern.
