Carla

Carla is an amazing model, having years of experience within the industry. Only 22 years old, she has been a professional model for the last 5 and can operate in a multitude of genres with ease. She is quiet, with a very strong Liverpudlian accent when she does speak and an unmatched work ethic. She had been on a shoot from 8am until 7pm when she arrived at the studio, and still did not complain when we hadn’t finished by 11.30pm. I think the best thing about Carla is how comfortable she looks in front of the camera, how natural. Her photos require hardly any editing and she has a real poise and nonchalant attitude when posing.

Lighting

The lighting for this setup is very simple, using just a couple of softboxes each placed at 45deg to the model. Both of these lights are set to similar powers, as I wanted the entire image to be almost equally lit, with very little shadow. The key light is still the light to the left hand side, but the fill light is doing more than just lifting shadows. In fact, I had both lights set to f9 and simply moved the light to my right a little further back, diffusing the light.

The act of having both lights powered similarly, gives the image an overall softer appearance and illeviates the light/shadow contrast you see in some of her images.

Processing

Using Lightroom, I applied a split tone to the image where the shadows were toned slightly green and the highlights ever so slightly with a cream colour. To me, this gives the image a very modern look, even though the overall feel of image is somewhat soft. I wanted this to be the contrast, and I wanted it to appear ever so slightly sci-fi looking.
