y. The subjoined plate will give a notion of oneof these extremities, and the spectator will suppose the corres-ponding end, from which the view is taken, to be precisely likeit. The figures introduced will also give a notion of the usualpurposes to which this room is devoted; namely, as a MorningSitting Room, or Drawing Room; and it is indeed consideredthe usual place of assembhng, either morning or evening, by thevisitors. From the partial contraction of the room, by means ofof these screens, the proportion is better preserved. The whole,in its present state, was executed by the late Mr. Holland, thearchitect, under his Lordships directions, and is painted white— which colour, being balanced by the various hues of thebindings of the books, gives the entire room a gay and cheerfulappearance. In the day time, ample light is afforded by means of five largewindows, which are seen on the left side of the house, in the ex-terior view of it. In the evening, as before observed, it is used
